Lori Berhow- PE
I am Lori Berhow, the Physical Education and Health teacher. I have been teaching for 13 years, and 8 of those years have been teaching homeschool students. I have always had a passion for physical activity, health, and nutrition. I love being able to teach my wonderful students ways to live an active, health lifestyle.
When I am not teaching, I like to spend my time with my family. My husband and I have two children, two dogs, and a cat. We love getting outdoors and enjoying beautiful Colorado! We spend our summers camping, boating, hiking, and four-wheeling. I’m looking forward to working with all my new students at Summit South Academy!
Gudrun Fraser- Drama and Piano
Hello! My name is Gudrun Fraser and I have taught music, voice, theater and dance for as long as I can remember. I started my music education in Salt Lake City, Utah where I studied ballet for many years and received my bachelor’s degree in piano performance. From there, I moved to New York City and studied at the Julliard School of Music before moving to Germany, where I studied music and performed in piano competitions in Germany and Austria. After touring as a professional performer for a while, I settled in Denver wanting to settle down, get married and have a family. I am so lucky to have a great husband and two fantastic children, Michael (14) and Angela (12). After arriving in Denver, I taught privately and started Community Theater in Training, a musical theater group. For the past five years, I was the music and drama teacher at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School. Teaching music and musical theater is my passion, and I can’t wait to meet my new students and their parents.
Anthony Gallegos- Elementary Martial Arts
Anthony Gallegos is a native of Denver and has decades of martial arts experience, both as a student and as a professional instructor. Most valuable was the martial training he received primarily as a youth. This training supplemented the life skills training he was receiving at home, and further strengthened the foundation in virtue upon which he was expected to build his life. As an adult, he realized that his martial arts training crossed over into aiding his professional development, and had well-equipped him to successfully navigate conflict both in and out of the office. He is excited to offer a course that will introduce children to the same building blocks he was privileged to have received through the discipline of the martial arts.
Lisa Kamicar - Kindergarten and Kitchen Class
I am Lisa Kamicar, the Kindergarten teacher. I have been teaching Kindergarten for the last 6 years in the home school setting. I love getting to know my students and helping them learn. My husband and I have two beautiful daughters who I get to spend all my time with; they sure are growing up quick. In my free time you can find me and my family in my garden, camping, boating, doing arts and crafts and baking.
I am looking forward to another great year!
Cindi Krebs - History and Reading
My name is Cindi Krebs and I always knew I was going to be a teacher. Since receiving a teaching license in 1986, I have had a variety of teaching experiences. I taught for 1 year in a Christian school, homeschooled my 4 children for 16 years, taught homeschooled students in a charter program for 17 years, and tutored students privately. My passions are history and language arts. After one of my sons struggled to learn to read, I received training that enables me to help students with dyslexia. I am a Colorado native and am somewhat of an expert in our state’s history. I have been married for 35 years, and our favorite pastime is spending time with our 2 precious grandchildren. I’m looking forward to the latest chapter in my teaching journey at Summit South.
Anna Lynn - Elementary
Jenny Matthews - Elementary Science, Geography, and Writing
Hello! My name is Jenny Matthews and I am very excited to be joining the Summit Academy team this year! I am a native of Nashville, Tennessee and have lived in beautiful Colorado for 18 years. I love to hike, camp, garden, read and explore with my family. I have been teaching for 18 years, and we have been on our homeschooling journey for 3 years now with my kids who are 10 and 12. We are loving the extra time together to learn and grow. I am really looking forward to our year at Summit and all that we will learn together!
Dana Paige - Secondary Martial Arts
I am a 5th Degree black-belt and owner of Full Circle Martial Arts studio. My mission is to positively affect the lives of our young students -- through the way of the Peaceful Warrior -- encouraging and empowering personal growth and development, affecting the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of each unique student's life.
Bonnie Ritschard- Spanish and Robotics
My husband and I are both Colorado natives; in fact I grew up in the Green Mountain area. Before I had children, I taught in a full-time classroom for eight years, and four years ago I began teaching in a homeschool support program like Summit South Academy. We have been homeschooling our children (Andrew, 12) and (Mehlea, 9) since they were in Kindergarten. As a family we enjoy camping, biking, hiking, reading, skiing, gaming (board games and video), attending soccer games, and ice skating events. I believe that Summit Academy South will be a vital role in the support of our homeschooling journey, where friendships are made and community is built. I’m looking forward to getting to know your children and you this year!!
Patricia Saldarriaga - Art
I started off as a child, grew into an adult, and then went running and screaming from all the rules of what "you should do" when you grow up! I am now a full-time artist and mom who enjoys long walks on the beach and breakfast in bed, which I never get... As you guessed I live in Colorado. I have a dog, 7 chickens, one kid, and a husband. I think kid art is the coolest, so I feel lucky to make art with the students.
Jana Sweeney - Secondary Science and English
I was born in the Czech Republic, so my name is pronounced "Yana". I have been in the U.S. since kindergarten, so I am not really a foreigner. My husband (of 34 years) and I homeschooled our children, Joshua (now 29) and Rachel (26). They are both successful adults (an ER nurse and an accountant), and we all look back on the homeschooling years with fond memories. I have taught homeschoolers English and science for the last 13 years. I strive to build curiosity, critical thinking, great writing, and excitement about learning in my classes. My favorite moments are when students accomplish a learning that they perceived as "too hard" or when students go beyond their own expectations for themselves. The best things students say to me after leaving my classes are: "I was totally prepared for science and writing in college" and "You made learning hard things fun" and "You inspired me to do more than I thought I could". When not teaching, I mountain bike, ski, backpack, garden, play with grandkids (4 of them), help at church, and rarely sit still. I am delighted to be a part of Summit South campus.
